hot tapping

A hot tap is the drilling of a hole in pipelines, tanks or installations that are in operation (pressurized). Because we drill through closable flanged valves that remains in place after drilling, placing a branch or fitting can be achieved without taking the system offline. Due to the hot tap equipment being a sealed unit, product cannot be released into the environment. Hot taps can be carried out on systems containing gasses or fluid products. Drilling is carried out with the use of a ‘hole cutter’ with a ‘pilot drill.’ Within this pilot drill a special device is incorporated to retain or remove the coupon from the pipeline or equipment. We have equipment available to drill up till 24″(NW600), up till a maximum pressure of 80 bar 20°C.
